Soccer, Football, Calcio

So, depending on where you are in the world, this sport could be called one of three things.  Here in Italy it’s called Calcio (which in English translates to “the kick”).  Last night I played my first game of calcio….ever!….with a bunch of people who I know started playing some form of this game in their mothers’ womb.  Regardless of how bad we lost, 7-3, I still had a good time.  My groins and thighs feel a bit on fire today, but I’m sure after a couple of games i’ll get used to it.  There was one positive note about the game…I think I was the best foreigner on the field!

  1. So, how many games of Calcio have you played since this post? I’m nervous to play this with the locals, mostly because i don’t like to run but i have been doing some running to get used to it. You know breathing techniques and all. Is it hard to play i’ve never really understood the game of Soccer?
